How hot is it?

We keep our studio at Bikram's prescribed 105 degrees, with 50% humidity. This varies a bit depending on the weather outside and the number of people in the room.

I looked at the thermometer once after class and it said 98/110/6,000 degrees. Is the thermometer broken?

The room can be cooler on the floor by a good ten degrees; the teachers often put the thermometers ont eh floor for an accurate reading. The actual temperature can fluctuate greatly – the higher the humidity, the more the room will feel like a struggle and, ironically, the heat tends to drift lower in that situation. Early morning classes are often lacking in humidity, so the heat can trend a bit higher until the students sweat enough to help with the humidity.

Does it have to be that hot?

The heat is a powerful tool. We aren’t trying to torture you, promise! The first and best reason for the heat is that it makes all of the tissues in the body nice and pliant, soft, stretchy, open, awake. Bikram often reminds us that you can change the shape of steel with enough heat. Once your muscles are nice a soft, the risk of injury is almost nil. Circulation inceases. Sweat pushes out toxins. Lungs and heart get the cardiovascular workout. Your ego is slayed.

What do I wear?

What you are minimally comfortable in. Everything on gets at least a little damp. Snug fitting clothes work best, especially if they wick away the sweat. Above-the-knee bottoms are recommended. Basically men wear shorts (lined above the knee), and usually go without a top. Women wear either a bra-top, full length sleeveless athletic top, or tank top. And either lined shorts, bicycle length tights, or yoga shorts. 100% cotton, though lovely, often tends to weight you down.

What do I bring?

Bring a large bath towel and a bottle of water. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. If you leave any of these things at home, we have them at the studio as well to rent or buy.

The heat freaks me out. What if I cannot tolerate the heat?

Frankly, few people can in the beginning. Even seasoned pros have days where the heat feels challenging. You don't have to do every single posture – keep that in mind for sure. If you feel tired or overwhelmed, then lay down. We prefer you stay in the room for the entire 90 minutes.

 Do I have to pre-register?

No. Just be sure to come 20 minutes prior to the start of class. This will give you time to check out the studio and fill out a form and acclimate to the environment. Teachers lock the front door 3 minutes prior to start of class.

I bought a class package and I can't remember how many classes I have left. How do I find out?

Easiest way to find out how  many classes you have left is to check online.
